Chris Weitz to Direct New Moon?

December 11, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

It is rumoured that director Chris Weitz is currently considering taking on the directorial chair for Twilight sequel New Moon. Having worked in the past with brother Paul on the films of American Pie and About a Boy, and also having directed The Golden Compass alone; it’s clear that Chris is a talented director. Is he the right person to tackle New Moon though, and will he indeed decide to direct the film for Summit Entertainment?

New Moon is planned to begin filming in March, and has a release date penned for November 20th 2009. A director needs to be decided soon, and whoever does take the film on won’t be given too much time to perfect their work. I feel Weitz could do the film well, and it would seem that the offer is there, and should he wish to take it on, then the job is his.

Official confirmation of New Moon’s director will surely soon come, in the mean time however, Summit Entertainment and fans alike will have to endure a wait as Weitz mulls over the offer and decides upon whether or not his directorial future lies with New Moon.

November 25, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

TwilightStephenie Meyer’s Twilight opened at cinemas this weekend and amassed a massive $70.5 million, smashing expectations, and making it the fourth highest opening weekend success of 2008. Exit polls showed that 75% of the audience was female, and it’s expected that many will see the movie multiple times such is the popularity and excitement which surrounds the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s popular Twilight novel.

It’s a powerful amount of money for the film to have made, and having had a budget of $37 million, the film has already turned a huge profit for Summit Entertainment. It would seem that they were right to secure all future films in the series, and now that Twilight has been such a cinematic success; the future looks bright for New Moon.

Twilight now holds the crown of greatest opening weekend for a vampire film ever, biting it comfortably away from the neck of Van Helsing. Stephen Sommers won’t be too happy, Stephenie Meyer and Summit Entertainment however will be laughing all the way to the bank.

November 19, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

TwilightSummit Entertainment has the film rights for all three of the next Stephenie Meyer novels in the Twilight series. New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn will all be put to film by Summit Entertainment, and the production company already has a writer for the next two films in the series. Melissa Rosenberg is to take on the role of screenwriter for the next two films, the first hasn’t even had its full theatrical release yet and already the Twilight film future has been decided.

The company is clearly expecting Twilight to bring in a lot of money, and given the selling power of the Stephenie Meyer novels, it’s really no surprise that they’re expecting for such success to come. The soundtrack is already selling well, and having already topped the U.S. Billboard 200; the soundtrack’s success in America is likely to be replicated all around the world when the film hits the movie theatres over the course of the next few months.

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series is hugely popular with fans of all ages, the novels have grossed masses of money and now the film franchise is looking to do the same thing too. Summit Entertainment is definitely onto a winner with the Twilight series, and with a screenwriter picked, and film rights already purchased; Summit Entertainment is making sure all areas are well and truly covered in order to make the Twilight movie domination path run as smoothly and painlessly as possible.

Official Twilight Trailer

November 11, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

It’s not long now until the Twilight movie hits cinemas all around the world. December 19th is the date set for the film to hit the UK, just 6 days before Christmas and at a time when all will be off school. Despite engaging fans of all ages, Stephenie Meyer’s romantic vampire novels are aimed mainly at a young teenage audience, the UK release date is well timed and well planned, and whilst there’ll be a lot of sad fans, glum that the film is out on November 21st in the USA and not until late December here in the UK; few will be complaining when the film hits, ripe at a time when all are enjoying themselves and getting into the festive spirit.

Will the film actually be any good though, will it pale in comparison to the novel of the same name? You can be the judge of that when you watch the trailer, personally though I find from this trailer that the performances look very wooden and that this Catherine Hardwicke directed movie adaptation will probably therefore disappoint. I enjoyed the Twilight novel, I’ve read better and don’t feel that the books are so special as many make out; they’re still quite good though, and I just don’t believe that this film will capture the magic of Stephenie Meyer’s written words. I really hope that I’m wrong, and when I watch the film I’ll be viewing it with an open mind; hoping that the Twilight movie is not such a disappointment as I’m really expecting it to be.

Here is the Official Twilight Trailer, see what you make of it, and take a look at how Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson play their parts in what little we see of them here. Will it be a huge box office success? Yes, undoubtedly. Will it be as excellent as the novel though? Only time shall tell.

One Week Till Twilight

November 10, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

TwilightBased on Stephenie Meyer’s popular Twilight novel, Catherine Hardwick’s film adaptation is all set to premiere on November 17th in Los Angeles. On November 23rd the film will then hit theatres all across the USA, at which point fans of all ages are bound to flock to see it.

The film is likely to be greeted with mixed reviews, there are many massive fans of the series and as such there are always likely to be discrepancies between the film and the novel which fans will not appreciate. Casting is also an issue, when you read a well written novel you often get a very clear picture in your mind of what you feel the characters should look like and how they’d likely behave; personal interpretation is key here and a film adaptation will therefore never please all. Ultimately there is huge hysteria amongst many however, and regardless of reviews a huge box office opening weekend is to be expected.

As the release date draws ever closer great excitement is building, Twilight fans all across the world are eager to see how it all pans out on film and excited to see the key protagonists in action. With the novels, Stephenie Meyer’s characterization of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen was always excellent; will Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson be able to put this across so strongly on film though? It’s not long now until we all find out.
