Could Skate 4 Be The Best Game In The Series?

April 25, 2023 by Rich Leave a Comment

A new official Board Room video dropped recently, giving us an update on the state of Skate, and what sort of things we can expect from the game when it’s finally released.

They started out by reiterating the point that the game will NOT feature paid loot boxes, they’ve noted that there will be an ever changing and evolving storyline, and have even informed us that there will be some brand new offboard gameplay mechanics that will come complete with their own sets of challenges to help explore the city in different ways than ever before.

To the skateboarding purists of you out there, however, the idea of non skateboarding activities may well seem like an unwanted distraction and you may even feel that the implementation of parkour based challenges could be detrimental to the overall quality of the video game as a whole. As long as they don’t make the non skateboarding side of things too much of a central theme though; it should just give people the freedom to explore the city and express themselves in whatever way they wish, whether that be with their board or otherwise.

So could Skate 4 potentially even be the best game in the series so far?

I feel that the series has evolved with each and every title over the years, and although it’s been 13 years now since Skate 3 was released and it’s natural to feel some degree of apprehension after such a long period without a new game; it seems that the team at Full Circle is understandably taking its time over this one, listening to the feedback and concerns in the community such as with the aforementioned fear that the game could include paid loot boxes, and I for one have faith in the process and trust that this next game can once again push things forward and provide for another point of evolution for the franchise.

Obviously there’s a long way to go yet, the footage that we’re seeing at the moment is still very early on in the process, and it’ll no doubt be a long while yet before we get a real feel for what Skate 4 is truly going to be like; there seem to be some promising signs so far though, and I’ll be choosing to remain hopeful that this game can not only serve to be a gateway into skateboarding for newcomers, but also put a smile on the face of those of us that have been invested in skateboarding and skateboarding games for some time.

Skate 4 promises to include Activities / Challenges (and NO paid loot boxes)

April 21, 2023 by Rich Leave a Comment

The fourth instalment in the Skate franchise currently remains a work in progress, and we’ve just had a new update from Skate developer Full Circle, informing us of what we can expect from the new game when it finally releases.

We now know that there will be an ongoing story involving you and the city of San Vansterdam, including ever changing and evolving activities to help keep you engrossed in the wonderful world of Skate.

The game aims to offer a fun place to explore and express yourself, periodically providing new things to skate and investigate, regardless of your play style or skill level.

The games challenges will provide three different difficulty tiers; own it, crush it, and shut it down, allowing both newcomers and veteran fans of the series alike to showcase their talents and feel a sense of accomplishment as they progress through the various activities and seek to perfect their skills.

In addition to the skateboarding challenges that we’ve become accustomed to with the Skate franchise in the past; this new game in the series will also provide some brand new offboard gameplay mechanics such as climbing and wall running, and with the addition of these new parkour inspired mechanics will come the implementation of some brand new challenges to help explore and navigate the city in whole new ways.

It has also once again been reiterated that the new game will not include paid loot boxes.

You can check out a full breakdown below of everything that’s been confirmed about the game so far, and towards the end of the video you’ll even get a peak at how the game is looking in its present pre-pre-alpha build. Additionally, if you’d like to be considered to participate in closed playtests? You can register your interest here.

For now, they’re still working on it, but in the future? We’ll see you in San Vansterdam.
