James Morrison – One Last Chance

July 2, 2007 by Rich Leave a Comment

One year on from the release of album ‘Undiscovered’, James Morrison is to release the fifth single. ‘One Last Chance’ is a download only single and rounds the year off nicely in which he won a Brit Award for best male, sold over a million albums in the UK alone, and played a total of four sold out UK tours. Although not his best, there is something oddly charming about this one making it a pleasant and pleasurable listening experience. Not the instant classic ‘You Give Me Something’ was, but still a fine effort from the young singer songwriter. Given that this is the fifth single to be taken from the album and is only being released as a download single, I thought this would be a vastly inferior single in terms of quality to what has come beforehand, however I was to be proven wrong when I listened to this one. Although not everyone will appreciate it, there is definitely something appealing about James Morrison and he fully deserves the year that he has had and his status as the biggest selling male solo artist of 2006.

James Morrison – The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore

December 18, 2006 by Rich Leave a Comment

James Morrison has to date released two great singles in the form of ‘You Give Me Something’, and ‘Wonderful World’ – both of which have exceptionally well crafted choruses and toe tapping beats. ‘The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore’ is what I would consider to be the weakest link in this trilogy of single releases, a track with little to no entertainment value whatsoever. ‘The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore’ is a dull ballad in which the issue of facing up to the factor of a relationship no longer working is explored. While previous offerings have been catchy and highly playable, this one is far slower and really does not show off his ability to be able to power out his vocals. He has an incredibly strong voice yet that is really not portrayed here and I think that this is a great shame. When the chorus comes you get the distinct impression that he is holding back with his vocal power, sounding strained and unnatural. Obviously he doesn’t want to get labelled as a one trick pony and needs to show a bit of diversity in his releases, however releasing bland offerings isn’t likely to get you anywhere.

One thing is for sure and that is that James Morrison does have talent as this has been shown in his previous two offerings, however here he just doesn’t seem to hit the spot for me. Sure songs don’t need to have a fast pace in order to be good tracks, but I just feel that this track lacks any sense of character and is therefore somewhat of a lacklustre effort. There is no denying the talent of James Morrison, but whoever penned this one in to be the next single released made a massive mistake as far as I’m concerned as I just cant see it ever being a success.

James Morrison – You Give Me Something

July 26, 2006 by Rich Leave a Comment

This is the first single taken from James Morrison’s debut album ‘Undiscovered’ which is out now, and it seems that with a voice like this he wont remain ‘Undiscovered’ for long. James Morrison is a young English singer songwriter, and despite his young age of 21 he sounds like he has been doing this for years as he has an amazing voice which is incredibly strong and powerful. It is a hard concept to grasp that this is merely Morrison’s first single release from his debut album and I’m sure that he will be well received at this years V Festival.

Here we are treated to Morrison’s voluptuous voice over the top of a superbly soulful brass section. While the horn section offers a backbone for this track, it is the searing vocals of James Morrison that really capture your attention as they come booming out over the top of the music. His soulful voice works extremely well with the instrumental backing making this an extremely well rounded single that should impress those that have the pleasure of hearing it. Expect to see a lot more of James Morrison over the coming months as this young man is destined to become a star with a voice like this.
