No Place for Lionel Messi in the FIFA 21 Team of the Year?!

January 23, 2021 by Rich Leave a Comment

In this world nothing can be said to be certain… Except for Lionel Messi being in the EA Sports Team of the Year. Or at least that was the case prior to FIFA 21 anyway!

The FIFA 21 TOTY has now been revealed, complete with a large number of the usual suspects. Manuel Neuer has been the selected in goal, the defence consists of Alphonso Davies, Sergio Ramos, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the midfield three selected this year is Joshua Kimmich, Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes.

With this year’s vote there was no space in the team for the Argentinian magician though, apparently, with the attacking trio instead consisting of Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé.

By his own standards, Lionel Messi hasn’t had the greatest of years, granted, and at the age of 33 he’s perhaps beginning to show some signs of slowing down and no longer quite being the absolute superstar of world football that he once was. Whilst both he and Barcelona might not be as good as they once were, however, Lionel Messi is still a phenomenal footballer and his omission from the FIFA 21 Team of the Year comes as quite a shock.

If we look at overall goal contributions in 2020; it paints quite an accurate picture of who belongs in this team, with Robert Lewandowski far ahead of the competition with 60 (45 goals and 15 assists), and Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo taking up the second and third spot respectively with Messi providing 50 contributions (26 goals and 24 assists) and Ronaldo 49 (41 goals and eight assists).Kylian Mbappe admittedly wasn’t too far off the pace, with 45 of his own (26 goals and 19 assists), but a definite question still remains as to whether or not he truly deserves his place in the team ahead of one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

How do you feel about Lionel Messi’s omission from the FIFA 21 Team of the Year? Was it justified in your opinion? Or does Lionel Messi decide his place in the spotlight alongside the likes of Crstiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes?

FIFA 21 to be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 4th

October 27, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

As we come increasingly closer towards the November 10th release date of the Xbox Series X|S here in the UK, it was becoming more and more worrying that official footage was yet to drop for FIFA 21 on next-gen.

When Xbox confirmed their launch titles a couple of weeks back and FIFA 21 was not amongst them, at that point it became more clear than ever that we’d have to wait a little longer for FIFA 21 to drop on next-gen, and it has now been confirmed that both FIFA 21 and Madden 21 won’t be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S until December 4th.

With NBA 2K21 set to be a launch title for both consoles, it’s extremely disappointing that this won’t also be the case for FIFA 21, but at least we now know exactly when we’ll be able to get our hands on it.

Football Manager 2021 will also be arriving on Xbox Series X|S in December and you can find out more about that over on our YouTube channel:

FIFA 21 Demo Cancelled – Why is There No Demo for FIFA 21?

September 21, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

It was expected that EA Sports would be releasing a FIFA 21 demo this week, with multiple different sources claiming that the demo would be dropping tomorrow (September 22nd).

Despite these previous claims, however, it has now been confirmed that there will in fact be no FIFA 21 demo whatsoever, with EA Sports claiming that this move will therefore allow them to focus their time on “delivering the best full game experience for current & next-gen consoles”.

We aren’t releasing a demo for FIFA 21.

Instead we’ve made the decision to focus our development team’s time on delivering the best full game experience for current & next-gen consoles.

We look forward to EA PLAY members jumping in 10 days from now and launching the game Oct 9.

— EA SPORTS FIFA (@EASPORTSFIFA) September 21, 2020

FIFA 21 will be available to play via EA Play from October 1st, with a subsequent full official release date of October 6th.

With no ability to play the game prior to that; if you’re currently undecided as to whether or not you’d like to pick the game up and were relying on the FIFA 21 demo to help you make your decision? Your best bet now is to play the 10 hour trial on EA Play when it becomes available on October 1st (EA Play is available at a cost of £3.99 a month, or £19.99 for a 12 month membership).

What are your thoughts on EA’s decision to cancel the FIFA 21 demo?

FIFA 21 Demo Out Next Week?

September 17, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

We previously posted a video about the lack of changes to Pro Clubs for FIFA 21 (video can be seen above – please do subscribe to us on YouTube if you’re not already doing so!), there are plenty of changes and new features coming to FIFA 21 career mode though, and of course a fresh new set of cards to be collected in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

Before we get to the full release on October 6th, however, we still have the demo to come yet, and based on its release date in previous years; we should see the demo dropping some time around September 22nd.

Last year, the FIFA 20 demo dropped on September 10th, exactly two weeks before the game’s official launch on September 24th, the previous year the demo was released on September 13th, 15 days before FIFA 19, and it’d be very surprising if we don’t see a similar sort of schedule being adhered to for FIFA 21, too.

If the FIFA 21 demo isn’t released on the 22nd? At the very latest, by our reckoning we should be able to get our hands on it by September 25th. Either way; the FIFA 21 demo is very nearly upon us, and by this time next week, we should all be able to play it on our respective consoles. Bring it on!

New Features Confirmed for FIFA 21 Pro Clubs

August 11, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

In a deep dive into FIFA Pro Clubs news for FIFA 21, EA Sports has revealed that two new changes will be coming to the game mode this year with the introduction of AI player customisation and custom tactics.

The FIFA Pro Clubs dev team had the following to say about the changes:

We know this is a much-loved mode for many of our players and we’ve been working hard to incorporate community feedback and suggestions into offering an overall better experience for all Pro Clubs players with the addition of increased customization for your Virtual Pro, your team mates, and new ways to play with your squad.

FIFA 21 is all set for release on October 6th 2020.
