Bring Me The Horizon

Bring Me The Horizon – AmEN! ft. Lil Uzi Vert & Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw) Review

June 5, 2023 by Rich Leave a Comment

We wondered if Bring Me The Horizon would ever release a heavy single again, and I guess we now have our answer. AmEN! is the heaviest song that the band has released in a long time, complete with a rapped verse from Lil Uzi Vert, and even features the legendary Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw and Head Automatica fame. In fact, Palumbo’s inclusion makes a huge amount of sense as the song certainly has a distinctly Glassjaw feel about it in places.

AmEN! comes complete with the obligatory huge chorus that we’ve come to expect from the band in recent years, vocal touches from Daryl Palumbo that add extra depth, and the Lil Uzi Vert feature also sits extremely well in the mix. What I didn’t expect to think going into the track, however, is that I would have liked to have heard more of Lil Uzi Vert in there. I had my reservations about how they could possibly make this collaboration work, but honestly, they probably actually ended up using him a little too sparingly here.

You can hear touches of Post Human: Survival Horror era Bring Me The Horizon in this one, a huge helping of Glassjaw, and Oli Sykes shows a great deal of range and variation with his vocal delivery. The clean chorus sounds incredibly modern and massive, whilst some of the growls that he musters here wouldn’t have sounded out of place on Count Your Blessings.

Similarly to with their last single LosT, there’s a lot going on in this one. It’s a very different tone and approach, but there’s a similar sort of chaotic energy that takes a little bit of time to adjust to. On first listen I actually found the experience somewhat overwhelming, providing an attack on my senses that I didn’t quite know how to take. With repeat listens I’ve grown to love it though and can definitely see myself listening to this one a whole lot more in the future.

If you’re a fan of Bring Me The Horizon’s heavier side then the chances are that you’ll see this as a real return to form. Glassjaw fans should also be pleased and will definitely hear the bands influence in this one, and even if you prefer the cleaner side of Bring Me The Horizon’s sound then there should still be more than enough chorus for you to get your teeth into here.

AmEN! is an extremely impressive single from Bring Me The Horizon and if you’re lucky enough to have tickets for Download Festival then I’m sure it’ll sound absolutely huge live.

Bring Me The Horizon – LosT Review

May 25, 2023 by Rich Leave a Comment

One thing you definitely can’t accuse Bring Me The Horizon of is remaining static with their sound. Throughout the years this is a band that has constantly been reinventing itself, melding different genres and shifting their approach.

This is definitely something that remains true with LosT, with its hyper-pop tinges and heavy leaning towards pop punk, LosT also comes complete with a breakdown thrown in for good measure, taking you on a chaotic journey that at times runs the risk of sounding slightly… Lost.

There’s a lot to unpack with this one, a cacophony of sound that takes time to adjust to and work out where you stand. For me, however, after multiple listens I finally found that I was really enjoying what the band had put together here, appreciating the absolute bricolage of sounds.

As someone that loved 2020s Post Human: Survival Horror, LosT feels like a very natural progression from that, and should sit well alongside Die4U and Strangers on the next album. Die4U also had some strong hints of pop punk, so it’ll also be very interesting to hear how fully they explore that sound with the next release.

Love it or hate it, LosT is definitely doing things differently and Bring Me The Horizon continues to keep pushing boundaries. It’s energetic, it’s fun, it’s a little bit crazy, and on a personal level I’m definitely finding great enjoyment in it.

Bring Me The Horizon – Parasite Eve Review

July 10, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

A single that sees the band return slightly to their heavier roots, this move is definitely paying off as Parasite Eve debuts at number 28 in the official UK singles chart, becoming Bring Me The Horizon’s first Top 40 single since 2014.

It’s topical, it’s got an incredibly catchy chorus and it also hits incredibly hard in places. Although it takes a good while to get into its stride; the intro actually works rather well in my opinion, building suspense very nicely before the first chorus drops just before the minute mark.

It’s unpredictable and slightly wild, but that in itself rather encapsulates the spirit of the world we’re living in right now. These are unprecedented and extremely chaotic times, and Parasite Eve’s energy captures this brilliantly. Both structurally and thematically; Parasite Eve makes a lot of sense as a single in 2020.

With its chunky guitar riffs, angry vocals and incredibly punchy chorus, Parasite Eve is a single that I definitely have a lot of time for, and following on from Ludens which was released in late 2019; Bring Me The Horizon’s last two efforts definitely fill me with great hope for what we can expect from the band in the future.

In a move similar to Hayley Williams’ Petals for Armor project earlier this year which saw her release two separate EP’s that together combined made up the Petals for Armor album as a whole; Bring Me The Horizon will be looking to put out a collection of four EP’s throughout the course of the next 12 months, which together will complete their seventh studio album, Post Human.

Pierce The Veil and Sights & Sounds will be supporting the band on this huge European tour, with Pierce The Veil frontman Vic Fuentes having the following to say about hitting the road with Bring Me The Horizon and Sights & Sounds:

Our last trip of shows over there made for some of some of the craziest and most entertaining nights we have ever had on stage as a band, and we’ve been counting down the days till this next tour. ‘Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake‘ is the latest track from Bring Me The Horizon’s ‘Sempiternal‘ studio album to be given an official video as it becomes the fourth track from the album to be officially released as a single.

With a chorus reminiscent of Thrice’s ‘Image Of The Invisible‘, ‘Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake‘ is an extremely impressive piece of music from Bring Me The Horizon, a track that holds a huge amount of energy and power, and which has now been given an official video to match its musical brilliance.

Bring Me The Horizon – Sleepwalking

March 9, 2013 by Rich Leave a Comment

bmth-sempiternal

With a chorus not too dissimilar to the early work of Linkin Park, ‘Sleepwalking‘ is a great new track from Bring Me The Horizon, and one that could well win the band a few new fans.

Whilst the ‘Sempiternal‘ studio album doesn’t actually officially come out until the start of April, it’s already available to stream online, a move undertaken by the band amidst controversy of the album having been leaked online 2 months earlier than its originally intended release date. The album may not officially be out yet, but ‘Sleepwalking‘ is already the third single to be released from the album out of the eleven tracks to feature on it. The band has quite an interesting variety of tracks on the album, and as previously mentioned, ‘Sleepwalking’ can certainly be seen to have more than just a hint of a Linkin Park vibe about it. Think of a slightly heavier ‘Crawling‘ and you’re probably not  far off envisioning what ‘Sleepwalking‘ sounds like. It’s a pretty impressive track from Bring Me The Horizon, although I can imagine that whilst gaining a fair few new fans with this new single/ the ‘Sempiternal‘ studio album, the band may also alienate a few old ones that are a little too set in their ways to accept the change in approach of the band. ‘Sleepwalking‘ is an incredibly solid single from Bring Me The Horizon, but it’s also a long way different from the band’s starting point; Bring Me The Horizon is a band that has come along way over the years as the band’s members have progressed and matured as musicians, it’s commendable to see, but also understandable that not everyone will be down with it.

If you’re a Linkin Park fan, or general fan of catchy metal songs, then you’ll no doubt have a lot of love for ‘Sleepwalking‘ and it’s most definitely a piece of music that I’d highly recommend listening to. The track won’t be for everyone, and the entire ‘Sempiternal‘ studio album certainly isn’t in the exact same tone as this track, personally I think that ‘Sleepwalking‘ is a great piece of music though and comes from another very impressive studio album from Bring Me The Horizon in the form of ‘Sempiternal‘.

Give this track a listen, and also give the ‘Sempiternal‘ studio album a listen too whilst you’re at it; if you like what you hear then show your support for great British rock music and make sure that you pre-order it for the album’s official release on April 1st.
