I had not heard a lot about this band before I had received this CD, but when I saw that it had been sent to me by Division PR then I knew it would be quite special as they are a PR company with impeccable taste, promoting the finest in quality acts that they truly believe in. As soon as this album kicks off you are instantly hooked by the beastly guitar hooks, strong drum beats, and barraging bass lines. They are also very vocally strong – the band is definitely spot-on in this department.
Alice Donut with Three Sisters has launched a grimey, brutal, and truly deadly album, and I really like what they are all about. This band makes strong music with catchy melodies that are harmonic yet oddly eerie. There is something about them that just make their music very spooky, yet so appealing. Everything on this CD seems to go together to make a CD that sounds truly beautiful – and the beauty of the album is achieved through pure, unadulterated brutality. There is so much power in the guitars on this album – you really have to hear it to believe it, but these guitar riffs really are of the highest quality on this CD. I feel that the guitars, coupled with the vocals are what really make the music of Alice Donut stand out as being something special. They are a band that seems to be able to create tracks that are deeply meaningful and will warm your heart, without the music actually sounding in the least bit like it would be emotional. The emotion in the music is through the lyrics rather than the portrayal of the vocals, and this shows the pure brilliance of the band and the talent, which they possess. I am sure that this emotion comes out even more so in their live shows as they are definitely a band that are passionate about what they are doing. They are making music because it is what they want to do rather than just being out to earn a few quid and I really admire this quality.
I will definitely be looking out for this band in the future as the music that is on this album really appealed to me. This is not the sort of thing that I would usually go for, but Alice Donut really do the music proud and create a sound that any band would almost certainly be proud of.
