First Look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in Iron Man 2

June 10, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

Courtesy of USA Today and Screen Rant, the internet world has now been provided a first look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in Iron Man 2.

The film isn’t even due out until 2010, we’ve already been treated to a look at Mickey Rourke’s character though, and have been provided with a taste of what we can expect to see from him in Iron Man 2.

Rourke will play Ivan Vanko in the film, the alter-ego of Whiplash. Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau is refusing to confirm specifics at this stage, and it’s not yet known as to whether or not Whiplash is a weapons designer working for Justin Hammer within the film, as is the case with the comic books.

It’s certainly an interesting look that Whiplash has been given, and one that will no doubt be discussed by many in the coming weeks and months.

In Memory Of David Carradine

June 5, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

David Carradine
1936-2009

The world has sadly lost a very fine actor in the form of David Carradine. Carradine was found dead in the wardrobe of his Thailand hotel room on June 4th 2009. David Carradine was staying at the Nai Lert Park hotel in Bangkok whilst recording his latest movie, Stretch.

Carradine’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and it’s thought at this stage that the actor, famous in recent times for playing the part of Bill in Tarantino’s Kill Bill films, committed suicide, dying either in the late hours of June 3rd, or early hours of June 4th.

It wasn’t until the morning of June 4th that Carradine’s body was discovered, and sadly the world has now lost the talented 72 year-old actor that was David Carradine.

I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer is Coming Soon to DVD

May 28, 2009 by Rich 1 Comment

I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer DVD CoverI Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer is coming to DVD on June 29th, a comedy horror co-directed by Stacey Edmonds and Doug Turner. The film stars Jai Koutrae, Aaron Scully, and Az Jackson amongst others, and features a psycho killer out for revenge for the bullying he suffered at the hands of a school cricket squad 20 years ago.

If you like your gore then you should enjoy I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer; it’s a low budget horror centred around Australian cricket, and has the killings and comedy required to provide for a quality viewing experience.

Doug Turner is not just the director, but the writer and editor here also, and he even had time to appear in the film as an actor (along with Stacey Edmonds).

The film acknowledges horror classics, even harking back to the film that arguably started off the slasher genre with its much known shower scene. If you know your slasher horror well then you’ll probably enjoy watching I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer, and if you also enjoy cricket then that should definitely add to the entertainment.

Anchor Bay Entertainment is the company that’s bringing this one to DVD in the UK, and as I said before; the film will be out on June 29th, so show your support for low budget horror, and be sure to get your hands on this one when it’s released.

May 18, 2009 by Rich 3 Comments

Three new posters have now been released for the Michael Mann directed Public Enemies, a film that is all set to hit cinemas here in the UK on July 3rd.

The three posters feature the film’s three main stars; Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Marion Cotillard, and all three are really rather cool looking.

We’re now just seven weeks away from the release of Public Enemies, and it’s good to finally see some new posters. Hopefully the film won’t disappoint when it does finally get released, it’s definitely nice to have these new character posters to look at though, and from the looks of the trailers that have been released so far; we should be in for quite a treat with Public Enemies.

Here are the three new Public Enemies posters:

$118 Million to be Spent on an Anime Museum?

May 11, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

It’s possible that an anime museum may be built in Japan on the Tokyo island of Odaiba at a cost of 11.7 billion yen ($118 million US Dollars), reports The Anime News Network. This is apparently something that the Japanese government is currently considering, and a museum to showcase anime, manga, and other such forms of Japanese culture may well be built in the future.

Prime Minister Taro Aso would like the museum to be built, and despite the initial cost of building the museum, feels that the jobs the museum would create could ultimately help reverse the economic downturn.

Taro Aso has been a manga fan ever since childhood, and would obviously love for the building to be built. There is opposition to Aso’s plans though, and as such a massive amount of government money would need to be invested in order for the museum to be built; it’s entirely understandable that not everyone feels that building this museum would be a particularly good idea.

Fans of anime from all around the world would no doubt travel to Tokyo in order to visit the museum, and in the long term Japan would no doubt profit from it; is right now really the best time to build the museum though? That’s something that the Japanese government really has to decide, and it’ll be interesting to see what decision they do ultimately come to.

Family Guy Coming to the Big Screen?

May 6, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

Family Guy DVD CoverSuccessful animated TV series Family Guy is reportedly heading towards the big screen, with a Family Guy movie apparently in the pipeline for the future.

Family Guy has already spawned a direct-to-DVD film in the form of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, but Seth MacFarlane now wants Family Guy to hit the cinemas, and confirmed this recently at an event arranged to celebrate the 100th episode of American Dad.

“Fox wants it. We know what we want to do with it. It’s just a question of finding the time,” said MacFarlane when speaking with Wired.com.

Beavis and Butt-Head did it in 1996, South Park did it in 1999, The Simpsons did it more recently in 2007, and now Family Guy is looking to do it also; make the transition from the small screen to the big screen, and hopefully do so with some degree of success.

The Family Guy TV series has arguably seen better days, the same could be said when The Simpsons Movie was released though, and given that Matt Groening was successfully able to pull it out of the bag with a very impressive film; there’s therefore a chance that Seth MacFarlane will be able to do it also.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see what can be done if a Family Guy film is made, and hopefully soon there’ll be more official news that Family Guy is indeed coming to the big screen.

May 2, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

The Lone RangerMike Newell, who is currently working on Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, is in talks to direct Walt Disney Pictures’ The Lone Ranger.

The film will star Johnny Depp, and according to ComingSoon.net; ‘begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish.’ The gang ambush the Texas Rangers, and one survivor is found by an American Indian named Tonto (Depp), who nurses the Ranger back to health. Tonto and the Ranger now team together to seek out the gang in a quest for justice.

It’s rumoured that George Clooney is also to star in the film as the Ranger, nothing has yet been confirmed about that though, so we’ll have to wait and see as to whether or not Clooney and Depp will be starring alongside one another in this one.

A release date is yet to be confirmed for Disney’s The Lone Ranger, sometime in 2010 is probably what we’re looking at here though, and more information shall surely be announced soon.

It’s a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, and is due for release on August 14th. This is the first trailer that has been released, and at last we’re finally being provided with a visual clue as to what the film will offer.

The film definitely looks and sounds very promising, and although we’ll have to wait until August to see it in its full glory; it’s nice to get a taste of what it’s going to be like, and I’m personally expecting big things from this Peter Jackson production.

The Machine Girl Trailer

April 30, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

The special effects are rather cheap and tacky, but if you enjoy your gore with a good dose of humour, then there’s a strong chance that you’ll really enjoy Noboru Iguchi’s The Machine Girl.

The Machine Girl definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously, and if you watch the following trailer then it’ll give you a good idea of what the film is all about. Don’t expect award winning acting, special effects, or plot development; do expect to have a lot of fun with the film though, and be prepared to laugh harder than you have in a long time.

Here is the trailer for Noboru Iguchi’s The Machine Girl:

Robert Rodriguez's Predator Remake Officially Confirmed

April 24, 2009 by Rich Leave a Comment

PredatorIt has been officially confirmed today that Robert Rodriguez will be rebooting the much loved Predator series. There have been rumours flying around about this for some time now, it’s official now though, and Rodriguez, director of such films as Sin City and Planet Terror, definitely will be making a Predator film, more than 20 years on from the release of the original back in 1987.

John McTiernan originally directed Predator, and this ultimately spawned a sequel, Predator 2, and two further crossover films to date in the form of Alien vs. Predator, and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem also. With this new film, Predators, Rodriguez is intending to reboot the Predator series, and will take the original concept, putting his own fresh spin on the proceedings.

Robert Rodriguez has five projects on the go right now so it’s hard to say when Predators will be released, it’s pretty exciting news that the film has been officially confirmed though, and whilst not everyone appreciates remakes; Predators has the definite potential to be hugely successful.

Rodriguez himself had the following to say about his forthcoming projects as he spoke recently to an audience of press members:

“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nerveracker, a reboot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”
