blink-182 – Quarantine Review

August 9, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

Clocking in at just over 2 minutes in length; Quarantine is incredibly short, straight to the point, and basically just a very nostalgic offering of 90s inspired skate punk.

Right from the start it instrumentally sounds to me like a cross between The Offspring and Pennywise, and in fact; if you played me the intro and told me that it was a previously unreleased Smash B-side? I probably wouldn’t question it for a second.

It’s pretty catchy, but it’s also very of the moment. Unlike Bring Me The Horizon’s Parasite Eve, which whilst also about the current chaotic times we’re living through, will have plenty of life beyond 2020 in my opinion; Quarantine is a track that I can’t really see most people listening to beyond the pandemic.

Thematically it’s very 2020, stylistically it’s extremely 1990s, and all in all; it’s maybe just a little bit too niche, definitely doesn’t reinvent the wheel, and probably isn’t a track that will have any real huge amount of long-term appeal.

Right now though? Definitely give Quarantine a listen if you’re a big fan of blink-182 or that 90s Epitaph/Fat Wreck sound. Enjoy it for what it is and have fun listening to this 2 minute blast of nostalgic skate punk fun.

Official Current Gen Gameplay Trailer Released for NBA 2K21

August 6, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

2K dropped an official gameplay trailer for NBA 2K21 today, giving us an idea of what we can expect from the game when it releases on current gen on September 4th.

The video hints at an updated Neighborhood, shows off a brand new shot meter that will be present in the game, and also confirms that NCAA teams will feature in NBA 2K21 with both UCLA and the Flordia Gators shown in the trailer.

With Stormy providing the musical backing, it’s definitely a very interesting first look at NBA 2K21’s gameplay and demonstrates that although a whole new console generation will soon be upon us; work is still being put in to make sure that NBA 2K21 provides something a little bit different from NBA 2K20 when it initially launches on current gen next month.

Football Manager 2021 Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X?

August 1, 2020 by Rich 1 Comment

Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson recently released a statement on the official Football Manager website, detailing the impact that COVID-19 has had on the future plans for the series, confirming that this year’s game will be released a little later than the company had originally intended.

What’s particularly interesting though is the following statement:

Our games will be on more platforms and available on more stores than ever before when they’re released later this year but, with regards to features and release dates, it’s a little too early for us to talk about the specifics right now.

With the assertion that Football Manager will be available on more platforms and stores than ever, this may well mean that Football Manager is returning to home consoles for the first time in over a decade.

Football Manager Touch is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and in the past we’ve seen other handheld Football Manager games released for both the PS Vita and the PSP. In terms of home console releases, however; Football Manager 2008 was the last game released, back in 2008 on the Xbox 360.

As stated by Miles Jacobson; it’s too early for them to start talking about the specifics just yet, but hopefully in the coming months we’ll learn a little more about the companies plans moving forward, and with the new console generation on the horizon, this could certainly be the perfect opportunity to test out the power and capabilities of the new consoles and potentially bring the Football Manager series to a whole new audience by making the game available for both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

As and when further details become available, we’ll be covering them here and will definitely be keeping our fingers crossed that a home console release is indeed coming!

2K Sports NFL Games to Use Official Player Names, Numbers and Likenesses

July 30, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

There hasn’t been a 2K Sports NFL game since NFL 2K5 back in 2004, today we’ve learned some exciting news about the return of the NFL 2K series, however, as it’s been confirmed that when 2K Sports does return with an NFL game next year, it will be complete with the names, numbers, images and likenesses for over 2,000 players in the NFL.

The following statement was released on Twitter regarding the news earlier, with the quote about wanting to provide fans with “experiences that are authentic, memorable and fun” being issued by 2K president David Ismailer.

Today, 2K announced it’s partnership with OneTeam Partners & the NFL Players Association to allow inclusion of NFL players in games🙌

Although EA Sports maintains the exclusive rights to the creation of a simulation NFL game until at least 2025, 2K Sports is all set to return with its non-simulation NFL game in 2021 and it should be very interesting to see what they can come up with.

Whilst there may not have been an NFL 2K game since 2004, 2K Sports has continued to dominate with its NBA 2K series and it’ll be fascinating to see if they can achieve a similar level of detail, immersion and success with their much anticipated NFL return.

Is the PES 2021 Season Update Worth It?

July 25, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

This year Konami celebrate 25 years of PES and it should be an absolute moment of celebration. It has however been confirmed that rather than being a full scale release, PES 2021 will just be a season update, with Konami stating that this is due to the sheer scale of everything that they’re looking to achieve with their next-gen debut next year.

They’re apparently confident though that this year’s game will offer fans more than enough thrills to tide them over until their next gen title is ready for launch in 2021.

PES 2021 will be available at a special anniversary price of £24.99, but is it worth picking up, even at that price? That’s what we’ll be exploring in the video above, and also looking ahead to the release of PES 2022 next year which will utilise the Unreal Engine and apparently provide significant updates both to MyClub and to Master League.

PES 2021 being a season update is definitely disappointing news, but if Konami can get things right with the extra time that they’ve given themselves to prepare for PES 2022? Next year’s game should be well worth the wait and may just be the best football game of 2021.

Time will only tell though if Konami can indeed make the most of the situation and come back bigger and better than ever for their debut release on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Konami Confirms Season Update for eFootball PES 2021

July 16, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

After previous speculation that PES 2021 would simply provide a season update; it has now been confirmed by Konami themselves that this will indeed be the case.

Despite this, Konami state that they remain “extremely confident that this year’s game offers fans more than enough thrills to tide them over until our next gen title is ready for launch“, citing that the reason for this is so that they can really focus on their next-gen debut next year, bringing with it a new engine and substantial updates both to MyClub and to Master League.

So PES 2021 may not provide much of an update over PES 2020, but if Konami can get this next-gen release right then they may well be coming back bigger and better with PES 2022.

PES 2021 will retail at a special anniversary price of £24.99 and is all set for release on September 15th 2020.

Bring Me The Horizon – Parasite Eve Review

July 10, 2020 by Rich Leave a Comment

A single that sees the band return slightly to their heavier roots, this move is definitely paying off as Parasite Eve debuts at number 28 in the official UK singles chart, becoming Bring Me The Horizon’s first Top 40 single since 2014.

It’s topical, it’s got an incredibly catchy chorus and it also hits incredibly hard in places. Although it takes a good while to get into its stride; the intro actually works rather well in my opinion, building suspense very nicely before the first chorus drops just before the minute mark.

It’s unpredictable and slightly wild, but that in itself rather encapsulates the spirit of the world we’re living in right now. These are unprecedented and extremely chaotic times, and Parasite Eve’s energy captures this brilliantly. Both structurally and thematically; Parasite Eve makes a lot of sense as a single in 2020.

With its chunky guitar riffs, angry vocals and incredibly punchy chorus, Parasite Eve is a single that I definitely have a lot of time for, and following on from Ludens which was released in late 2019; Bring Me The Horizon’s last two efforts definitely fill me with great hope for what we can expect from the band in the future.

In a move similar to Hayley Williams’ Petals for Armor project earlier this year which saw her release two separate EP’s that together combined made up the Petals for Armor album as a whole; Bring Me The Horizon will be looking to put out a collection of four EP’s throughout the course of the next 12 months, which together will complete their seventh studio album, Post Human.

You can watch the official video for Bring Me The Horizon’s Parasite Eve below:
