Inglourious Basterds Secures a Summer Release

January 3, 2009 by Rich 1 Comment

Inglourious BasterdsQuentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds is to open at the cinemas on August 21st 2009. The film, which stars amongst others Brad Pitt, is split into five chapters and focuses on two converging storylines. One storyline the film follows is about a group of prisoners that have banded together in order to battle a group of Nazis, and the other looks at a Jewish woman with an aim to avenge the death of her parents at the hands of the said Nazi group.

Tarantino, whose last film was Death Proof, is definitely taking a drastic change in direction with his latest film, and it’ll be interesting to see what he makes of this one. Inglourious Basterds is certainly a film with fantastic potential, and it could yet turn out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer.

Inglourious Basterds
is all set to go head to head with Final Destination 4: Death Trip 3D, and will certainly be one to watch out for this summer. Samuel L. Jackson’s narration will surely be excellent, and I feel that this is definitely something that will add strength and depth to the film.

Tarantino hopes to have Inglourious Basterds finished and ready for showing the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Official State of Play Trailer

December 29, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

Starring Russell Crowe in the main role of Carl McCaffrey, State of Play is all set to hit US cinemas on April 17th 2009. Brad Pitt was originally meant to star in the film as McCaffrey, due to disagreements he decided to walk away from the part however, resulting in a delay in the filming process. Due to the delay; Edward Norton was also forced to withdraw from his role, and Ben Affleck was ultimately cast in his place.

Brad Pitt and Edward Norton had been set to star alongside one another for the first time since the huge 1999 hit Fight Club, it wasn’t to be however, and ultimately the pairing was completely changed. Amongst others, State of Play features Helen Mirren and Jason Bateman in a star-studded cast for this film adaptation of the BBCs 2003 State of Play TV drama serial.

State of Play is a political thriller which tells the story of a case to solve the murder of a congressman’s mistress.

The following is the official trailer for the film:

Merry Christmas from World of Film

December 25, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

Home AloneTo all those that read this; I wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. Christmas is once more here, and for most that therefore means celebrating with lots of alcohol, too much food, and some terrible TV too!

The TV channels are loaded with Christmas specials of all your favourite programmes, and wherever you happen to live in the world there’s sure to be a fair selection of festive film fodder available. Home Alone is always a brilliant film to watch at Christmas, there are plenty of others out there that are equally excellent however, and The Grinch also is another absolute Christmas favourite of mine.

Have a good time this Christmas, cherish the day with your loved ones, and be sure to let them know just how much you love them.

Merry Christmas to one and all!

Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Will Begin Filming Next Year

December 15, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

Freddy KruegerSpeaking with Shocktillyoudrop.com, Andrew Form confirmed that Nightmare On Elm Street will be production company Platinum Dunes next film. Their Friday the 13th reboot will hit cinemas in February 2009, and the Nightmare On Elm Street remake is “hopefully shooting this spring” says Form.

The basic premise of the 1984 Wes Craven directed A Nightmare On Elm Street will be taken on board, but in terms of killings and dreams; Platinum Dunes will be looking to borrow from films from the whole Nightmare On Elm Street collection.

It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with for this series reboot, it would seem however that Robert Englund will not be back to take on the role of Freddy Krueger. So who will be taking on the all important role of undead serial killer Freddy Krueger? I’ve no idea who I’d most like to see play the part, there’ll no doubt be a lot of ideas floating around online though as to who would make the ideal Freddy Krueger for this new film in the series.

Robert Englund has appeared as Freddy Krueger in every single Nightmare On Elm Street film thus far, and Platinum Dunes remain hopeful that he will appear for a part in this new film also.

I feel that this A Nightmare On Elm Street remake has real potential; it could easily all go horribly wrong, but I’m still quite interested to see what they can come up with. Producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form have certainly come good in the past, and their Nightmare On Elm Street could well turn out to be something really rather special.

So filming will probably begin this spring, and a 2010 release date seems most likely at this stage. Can a brilliant horror remake be born, or will another horror classic be ruined? Only time shall tell.

Chris Weitz to Direct New Moon?

December 11, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

It is rumoured that director Chris Weitz is currently considering taking on the directorial chair for Twilight sequel New Moon. Having worked in the past with brother Paul on the films of American Pie and About a Boy, and also having directed The Golden Compass alone; it’s clear that Chris is a talented director. Is he the right person to tackle New Moon though, and will he indeed decide to direct the film for Summit Entertainment?

New Moon is planned to begin filming in March, and has a release date penned for November 20th 2009. A director needs to be decided soon, and whoever does take the film on won’t be given too much time to perfect their work. I feel Weitz could do the film well, and it would seem that the offer is there, and should he wish to take it on, then the job is his.

Official confirmation of New Moon’s director will surely soon come, in the mean time however, Summit Entertainment and fans alike will have to endure a wait as Weitz mulls over the offer and decides upon whether or not his directorial future lies with New Moon.

The All New Terminator Salvation Trailer

December 10, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

A Terminator film without Arnold Schwarzenegger? It would seem that Arnie perceives his role as Governor of California to be more important than starring in Terminator films these days; Despicable!

So Terminator Salvation is the first film in the series not to feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Roland Kickinger instead appears as the prototype T-800 cyborg. Christian Bale stars in the lead role of John Connor, and Helena Bonham Carter also makes an appearance here as lead villain Serena. Tim Burton is a big fan of the Terminator films, and that’s why Carter accepted this villainous role; I’m sure she’ll play the part well, and given the quality of casting here, am confident that Terminator Salvation shall be a strong film.

Terminator Salvation is to be released on May 22nd 2009, and here for all to see is the new trailer, supplied courtesy of Trailer Addict:

Official Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer

December 9, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

Originally due for release on November 21st; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will finally be emerging in cinemas on July 17th 2009. There’s still quite a while to wait yet, Warner Bros. have been kind enough to tease us with a feature trailer already though, and just in case you weren’t excited enough about the film already; it has to be said that it’s an absolutely brilliant trailer.

As a huge fan of the books, I’m very much looking forward to seeing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when it’s released, and with over eight months still to go; I’m already counting down the days until July 17th.

Here is the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer:

Official Friday the 13th Trailer

December 5, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

With Marcus Nispel’s Friday the 13th reboot due out on February 13th 2009, a trailer has now been released for all horror fans of the world to start drooling over. In 2003 Nispel directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, a film that I personally thoroughly enjoyed; I’m expecting more of the same with his take on Friday the 13th, and having now watched the trailer am left feeling that this could well be the best film in the series yet.

Last time we met up with Jason Voorhees he was killing teenagers on Elm Street, freeing Freddy Krueger from Hell in the process, and ultimately the two slasher icons ended up fighting in a fiercely contested battle for their lives. Just one year before that we had of course seen Jason Voorhees wreak havoc in space, and you have to go back another nine years for the last trace of Jason before then in what was supposedly The Final Friday.

So Jason’s back again, and Marcus Nispel’s Friday the 13th will be the third film in the series in the space of seven years. Here’s the trailer:

Rob Zombie Will Direct Halloween 2

December 2, 2008 by Rich Leave a Comment

HalloweenTyler Mane will be returning to play the role of Michael Myers, and Rob Zombie is to direct Halloween 2 which will begin filming in March 2009. Zombie did of course direct the remake of John Carpenter’s original 1978 Halloween film in 2007, and whilst some loved what he did with the film; others absolutely hated it. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Rob Zombie’s Halloween, I know that there are a lot of people out there that aren’t however, and the news that he is to direct the film’s sequel is therefore likely to be greeted with a very mixed reaction.

Can Rob Zombie do a good job with Halloween 2? I like to think he will, for those that weren’t a fan of his 2007 remake however then I’m sure there will be some definite doubts.

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo were originally going to direct the film, and having done an excellent job with Inside they were expected to do a similarly stellar job with this Halloween sequel. It seems only right though that Rob Zombie will direct the sequel to his own Halloween reimaging, who knows what direction he will take with the film, and what will be made of the new Michael Myers this time round; I can’t wait to see it though, and am looking forward to another fantastically directed Halloween film from Rob Zombie.
