The Machine Girl Trailer

The special effects are rather cheap and tacky, but if you enjoy your gore with a good dose of humour, then there’s a strong chance that you’ll really enjoy Noboru Iguchi’s The Machine Girl.

The Machine Girl definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously, and if you watch the following trailer then it’ll give you a good idea of what the film is all about. Don’t expect award winning acting, special effects, or plot development; do expect to have a lot of fun with the film though, and be prepared to laugh harder than you have in a long time.

Here is the trailer for Noboru Iguchi’s The Machine Girl:

Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street Review

A low budget film from director Jim Mickle; ‘Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street’ has finally come to DVD in the UK, three years after its completion back in 2006. Originally titled ‘Mulberry Street’, Mickle’s debut feature has definitely proved to have been well worth the wait, and despite its low budget; Jim Mickle has here put together a very impressive horror film indeed.

The basic premise here is that an infection is spreading throughout New York City, and when bitten by rats, people are slowly turning into oversized rodents, and feeding on the flesh of others. Once bitten by either a rat or the infected; a person will become one of them, and join the growing population of rat people that is currently taking over the streets of New York City. The infection has been contained within Manhattan, and all bridges and tunnels to the island have been sealed off. For those that are left alive in Manhattan; staying alive is becoming an increasingly more difficult task.

Clutch (Nick Damici) is our main man here, and is expecting his daughter Casey (Kim Blair) to return home anytime soon. He braves the infected streets of New York to help his friend from downstairs Kay (Bo Corre) arrive home safely from work, what he doesn’t yet know however is that at the same time as this; his daughter Casey is also fighting her way through the infected streets of New York, attempting to arrive home at 51 Mulberry Street. They’re both battling hard against the infected, but will they be able to survive?

‘Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street’ truly is an absolutely brilliant horror film; Jim Mickle is here able to put together a film that is incredibly tense from start to finish, and the film can certainly never be accused of being dull. You’re left guessing all throughout the film, and right up until the very last scene; you’re still never sure just what will happen next.

The film has been supremely well shot, and an incredible amount of excitement has here been packed within the film. The acting quality is high from all of our key protagonists, and although you can tell that the budget was low; this merely adds to the appeal of it all, and makes the film all the more enjoyable to watch.

For the entirety of the film’s 84 minute runtime; ‘Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street’ most definitely had me hooked, and everything about the film really does provide for a very entertaining viewing experience. The film ends very abruptly, and when the film does finish it’s actually quite unexpected; the great thing about ‘Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street’ though is that is leaves you wanting for more right up until the very last second. It keeps you on your toes at all times, and is most definitely one of the very best horror films I’ve seen in a long time. You actually care about the characters here, you want them to survive from the infected, and feel a genuine connection with them. The idea of the film is excellent, and the way that it has been carried out in all areas truly is absolutely sensational.

It’s not often that you’ll come across a low budget horror film as high in quality as ‘Zombie Virus On Mulberry Street’, this really is a very impressive horror film, and Jim Mickle certainly shows supreme strength here as a director. This may be Mickle’s first feature film, but hopefully there’ll be many more to come from him in the future.

Robert Rodriguez's Predator Remake Officially Confirmed

PredatorIt has been officially confirmed today that Robert Rodriguez will be rebooting the much loved Predator series. There have been rumours flying around about this for some time now, it’s official now though, and Rodriguez, director of such films as Sin City and Planet Terror, definitely will be making a Predator film, more than 20 years on from the release of the original back in 1987.

John McTiernan originally directed Predator, and this ultimately spawned a sequel, Predator 2, and two further crossover films to date in the form of Alien vs. Predator, and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem also. With this new film, Predators, Rodriguez is intending to reboot the Predator series, and will take the original concept, putting his own fresh spin on the proceedings.

Robert Rodriguez has five projects on the go right now so it’s hard to say when Predators will be released, it’s pretty exciting news that the film has been officially confirmed though, and whilst not everyone appreciates remakes; Predators has the definite potential to be hugely successful.

Rodriguez himself had the following to say about his forthcoming projects as he spoke recently to an audience of press members:

“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nerveracker, a reboot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”

17 Again is Top of the US Box Office – $24.1 Million Opening Weekend for Zac Efron's New Film

17 AgainWith an opening weekend of $24.1 million; Zac Efron’s latest film 17 Again has shot straight to the very top of the US Box Office. $10 million ahead of second placed State of Play with $14.1 million, 17 Again was a clear favourite this weekend, and the High School Musical star is certainly showing that there’s more to him than Troy Bolton.

Zac Efron is a massive worldwide star after the success of the High School Musical films, and it was really no surprise that so many people flocked to see him in his new film this weekend. $24.1 million is an absolutely brilliant opening weekend for 17 Again, and New Line Cinema will no doubt be incredibly pleased that the film has opened so strongly.

In 17 Again, Matthew Perry feels unhappy with the way his life has turned out and is magically made 20 years younger. He has now been provided with the opportunity to be 17 again, and is therefore able to rewrite history, and carve out a fresh new pave through life. Will he find that life could have been better though, or will being 17 again merely make him realise just how good he had it?

Hannah Montana: The Movie had been top, the Disney film slipped to fourth though, and whilst Miley Cyrus has dropped from the top; former Disney sensation Zac Efron has now taken her place, and done so with fantastic style.

High School Musical may have been the start of Zac Efron’s success, but the massive popularity of 17 Again suggests that there’ll be many more hugely popular films to come from the supremely talented teen heartthrob that is Zac Efron.

Laid To Rest DVD CoverRobert Hall’s Laid To Rest DVD is to be released on May 4th. The film takes inspiration from the old school stalk-and-slash flicks, and has been cited by Dread Central as “A masterpiece of mayhem and carnage.

This is the second film from Robert Hall, and after the release of Lightning Bug in 2004; it seems that he’s now developed quite a taste for directing. Robert Hall is better known for his work in the make-up department, but it’s good to see him branching out again, and once more trying his hand at writing and directing.

Hall has got together a quality cast for Laid To Rest, and with Bobbi Sue Luther, Lena Headey, and Kevin Gage starring amongst others; with Laid To Rest you can definitely expect the acting quality to be incredibly high.

Laid To Rest tells the story of a masked silent serial killer on the loose, and if you enjoy your horror then it may well be worth taking a look at this one when it comes to DVD through Anchor Bay Entertainment next month.
