Morrissey – That’s How People Grow Up

Having spent five years as the front man of The Smiths between 1982 and 1987, Morrissey has been performing as a solo artist for over 20 years now. With a ‘Greatest Hits’ album due out on January 28th, Morrissey has been an inspiration to many throughout his career, with many bands having stated the music of The Smiths to have been a great influence including the likes of Blur, Oasis, and even Radiohead. Whilst the music has clearly inspired and enthused many, I personally just don’t see the appeal of the man and would by no means consider myself to be a fan of either The Smiths or of the solo material of Morrissey.

Although I was more than willing to give the new single from Morrissey a fair hearing; I found the single to be entirely loathsome. The voice of the man grates on me massively and I just find the droning vocal tone and plodding beat of ‘That’s How People Grow Up’ utterly irritating. There is nothing in this single that makes me want to continue listening to it, it’s the sort of track that if came on the radio I would not even notice it playing; it really is that insignificant. ‘That’s How People Grow Up’ has no lasting impact on me whatsoever and I feel that it is a highly disposable track which does nothing in order to stand out from the crowd, were it not for it being a Morrissey track in fact then it would no doubt come and go completely unnoticed by all.
